Just like writing, taking pictures can be something you do for the love of it or to get paid. When you love something, it doesn't feel like work, so photography can be both, again, like writing!
You don't necessarily have to go to school to become a great photographer although it does help because you learn all the techniques that make the snapshot look amazing. I do recommend schooling if you want to take photography to a professional level, where you either pay for college or learn from a professional first-hand. That way, you can get your foot in the door easier and quicker. If you don't, you may struggle in those areas. But that could also be half the fun lol. As a hobby, you don't have to take classes, but you can still learn by watching YouTube videos on the subject. I enjoyed a few videos on there so I could learn a few things just for my personal use as a writer. The ways you can manipulate a picture just by placing the camera in different places is amazing.
The Internet is a highway of learning and Google is the place to be for great ideas. As a writer, creating my own pictures is a cool idea for cover design. I did take one of my own pictures for a cover. The idea for the story inspired the picture and since I had the right objects for it, I displayed a mask and rose and took lot of pictures of them. When I found the perfect angel and placement of those, I removed the background and added it to the cover. Though I enjoy taking pictures, it isn't a hobby for me, but it could very well turn into one lol. I did meet a few authors who have photography as a hobby.
If this is one of your hobbies, how did you get into it?
What do you like to take pictures of?
Do your pictures have meaning behind them, or a message you want to convey?
Do you like your subject moving or being still?
Do you like color, or black and white?
Is it a hobby that you get paid to do? Or is it just for fun?
Do you share the snapshots or keep them to yourself?
I'd love to hear your stories about photography. I have so much to learn about it! Thank you!!!
