I have the brownest thumb there can be. I once bought a cactus because it would be the easiest plant to care for. I thought. I killed that too lol. As it turns out, I was over-watering the darn thing. I almost gave up on anything related to gardening. Then I decided to try outside gardening. I planted a colorful arrangement of flowers. I can't remember the names of the flowers--they were one of the cheapest plants Walmart had. Wouldn't you know it, they thrived! But, God has everything to do with that--not me. Still have a brown thumb. Everyone else in my family has a green thumb. And that's okay. It's not for me, but it doesn't mean I can't appreciate a nice garden.
Do you like to garden? What's your process? How do you choose what to plant and when? Do you add something new every year, or do you plant the same plants every spring? Or do you have annuals? I do know some things about gardening--like some plants come out yearly on their own. Plant it once and it's done. Some die out in the fall and require new planting if you want it back the next spring. I learned recently that some things get planted in the fall.
When you work in the garden, do you plan a design? Or do you just plant without focusing on what's going where?
I think the whole process is interesting. And I do have a few characters who would probably love you due to the gardening hobby. Adam Stanley from Missing Through Time has a rose garden. He merged different roses to make new breeds. Have you done that? Is it hard?
Okay, while I have a lot of questions, I have something else to share too. I know that gardening is one of those hobbies that can be shared with others. It's a good way to bond over with children and spouses. You can start and finish together, from picking what to plant, to where you're going to plant it. Then there's the caring for the plants. Pruning makes the plant live longer and keeps it healthier. Teaching gardening to your children can help them appreciate more in life because they understand it takes work to make something beautiful. And we need beauty in our lives. Which leads to my final question: do you garden solo or with someone else?
