Family Values-Traditions

What are some family traditions you grew up having that you use in your new family with your children?

Did you eat dinner around the table?

Did you go out to look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve every year?

Did you stay up on New Year's to watch the ball drop, maybe see fireworks?

Things like those are a good way to bring a family bond. Traditions are great and can also teach values, depending on the tradition. I had those growing up. Some were nice, some weren't so nice. Most of them were not passed down. Long story.

When you start a new family, sometimes it's a good idea to start your own traditions. After all, you are marrying someone who has his/her own traditions. Do you want to have two traditions for Christmas? Which one carries more value? That's one main reason it's better to start something new. You could combine the two traditions, make something new or take something from each one to make it new. Or you can scrap it altogether and bring a totally new concept to the table, so to speak.

What traditions do you have? Did you keep any from your childhood? I'm curious to know. It doesn't relate to any books--I'm just curious.

Thank you!
