Small Excerpt from Chapter 3

The closer Emily came to her due date, the more she heard Derrick’s voice in her head. The more she heard from Derrick, the more agitated she became. She was the only one who could see or hear him. For months, she tried to find a way to stop him but couldn’t see any answers, even with her powers. “I can’t run from him so how do I protect our baby from him?”

“You fight back, like you did before,” Michael told her.

    “I don’t know if I can.”

“He’s really gotten to you, hasn’t he?” Michael put his arm around her, trying to comfort her but it was useless. She was feeling as if her father was winning.

“Emily, you have to get a hold of yourself. Sitting there is not going to beat that bastard,” Aunt Jane said when she walked into the living room.

“I don’t have the first clue how I’m going to fight him, Aunt Jane.”

“That’s where I come in,” a voice said from the hallway. Emily looked past Aunt Jane and watched a woman enter. It was the same woman from the antique store. “I’m sorry, I let myself in, I hope you don’t mind.”

“Actually, I do but tell me what you mean,” Emily said as she tried to stand up. Her stomach was swollen as if a large watermelon had been tucked under her blouse. When she couldn’t stand, the woman stepped forward. “I don’t know why you’re here but please don’t come nearer.”

“I apologize for my intrusion but I have information that may help you. Normally, I don’t step in but I feel I must in order to keep you from making a tragic mistake, Emily.”
